Self Care On A Budget

Updated: Feb 20

Self-care can be viewed differently from person to person. Some would say self-care is about treating yourself, pampering yourself and making yourself feel physically great. Others might say self-care is about learning about yourself, listening to your mind and body and taking the time to make yourself feel mentally and physically great. I'd say, both perspectives can be and are right. Whichever works best for you, whatever makes you feel your best, go for it.

Self-care techniques can be completely free while others have a price tag. For those who are on a budget, I have compiled a shortlist of self-care techniques you can achieve while saving those pennies.

1. Stretch

Do something that energizes and takes care of your body. Stretching equals exercise or well, at least a small portion of it and has positive outcomes on your physical and mental well-being plus it's completely free!

2. Face Masks

Although face masks do cost money, sheet masks from the drugstore are very affordable for those on a budget. Doing a face mask can make you feel new and refreshed, allowing for positive thinking and a boost in mood. They feel great, are relaxing and have many benefits for your skin, it's a win, win, win situation.

3. Unplug

Try unplugging from social media for a day. Lock away your mobile phone and focus on yourself. Without any distractions, you'll be surprised how much you will learn about yourself.

4. Read

Reading is a great form of escape for many people. It provides great adventures and mysteries without having to leave your own home or your bed. You can find cheap books online, go to your local library to rent a book or even listen to an audiobook. Reading is a mood booster and can help you focus on the now allowing you to be more mindful.

5. Take a Bath

Light all your favorite candles, use bubbles or bath bombs or bath milk, listen to your favorite music and unwind in a nice warm and toasty bath. Taking a bath helps to relieve stress and tension within your body. It also allows you to unwind while being unplugged contributing to that mindfulness aspect of self-care. You can add in your favorite bath essentials by going to your drug store and finding great deals or unwind in your classic warm bath with no extras, either way, your body and mind will thank you.

What forms or techniques of self-care do you use? Let me know in the comments below.
